URGENT: Act Now to Protect Badgers

Urgent Call to Action

Badgers need your voice now.

Help Oxfordshire Badger Group support the Badger Trust’s urgent new campaign

“Building Homes. Burying Badgers”

The new Planning and Infrastructure Bill currently going through parliament puts badgers and their habitats at risk. It may mean that developers can avoid having to take  mitigation measures.

The government is also considering amending the Protection of Badgers Act to enable the killing or taking of badgers, or sett interference,” for the purpose of development, preserving public health or safety or for reasons of overriding public interest”.

This change is arguably even more concerning than the Planning Bill, since it could pave the way for widespread badger culling or translocation under the guise of development and infrastructure projects. Such measures risk undermining badger conservation efforts and may lead to severe consequences for local populations.

This poses a direct threat to all badger groups and the badgers we work so hard to protect. We need your support now. The Badger Trust has provided information and a template letter to help you contact your MP within the next 7 days before the Bill Committee meets on 24th April.

Please contact your MP urgently, as the Planning & Infrastructure Bill is moving through Parliament and, unless amended, could lead to the unnecessary and unjustifiable killing of badgers in the name of development.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. Find your MP and their contact details
  2. Copy the Badger Trust template letter, add your message if you like or (best) write in your own words
  3. Email your MP as soon as possible.
  4. Let us know you’ve taken action !

The Bill will next be debated on 24 April by the Bill Committee, so please contact your MP within the next 7 days about this issue.

We urgently need everyone to take action now.
