Badger Culling DOES NOT help control bovine TB

An important new scientific paper casts doubt on the findings of Oxford's Randomised Badger Culling Trial (RBCT).

The paper "Absence of effects of widespread badger culling on tuberculosis in cattle" by Torgerson et al is a comprehensive re-analysis of the original RBCT data. It concludes that "there was insufficient evidence to conclude RBCT proactive badger culling affected bTB breakdown incidence".

We welcome this publication which supports more recent findings that the intensive culling of badgers since 2013 is not associated with disease reduction.

We renew our call for the Oxford Scientists behind the RBCT to speak up and advise the government to end the badger cull immediately.

Their claim that the RBCT "provides a strong evidence base….with appropriate detailed statistical or other quantitative analysis" is no longer defensible.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Oxford University work provides the scientific basis of the governments badger cull policy. Their work has been used to justify killing over 230,000 badgers. Culling started in Oxford. They now must speak out against continuing the cull.
